NHCA Tennis Shows Positive Strides at Wellington

The NHCA Tennis team traveled to state-ranked Wellington on Tuesday evening to take on their junior varsity squad. The Statesmen did not win any matches, but they won some games against a very experienced team.

1 Singles: Andreas Tsitroulis 1-6 2-6 L

2 Singles: Kassi Wolfe 3-6 0-6 L

3 Singles: Ethan Engen 3-6 0-6 L

1 Doubles: Spencer Corey/Kelcie Gremillion 0-6 1-6 L

2 Doubles: Zach Seidle/Tessa Finkle 3-6 1-6 L

Coach Hillari Corey is proud of her squad, “Thanks to those that were able to cheer on the Statesmen tonight. We showed up to play against an experienced team and won some games…I can’t ask for more. That shows improvement for each player! Not one match gave up two complete sets against a team with 5+ years of experience. (Coach) Dave (Gray) and I are super proud of all of our players. Despite being behind, they learned and had fun at it as well.”

The best comment of the evening came from the Wellington coach, “Your team is just so positive, I love it! It’s quite refreshing actually. It’s not what we’re used to seeing.” He said these things with a big smile on his face. That right there is what shows the Statesmen qualities to all!

The team will travel to Cristo Rey on Thursday, May 9 for their next match. Go Statesmen!

McCallister Named NHCA Varsity Girls’ Basketball Coach

Believing that God has led in this decision, the New Hope Christian Academy has appointed Mr. Brian McCallister as the 2019 Head Varsity Girls’ Basketball Coach. Brian graduated from Teays Valley High School in 1988. He has been coaching for over 30 years in a variety of sports. He began his basketball coaching career in 1996 and 1997 with the Circleville middle school boys and girls programs. He then started the middle school boys program at NHCA in 2007. Brian has been coaching at NHCA almost every year since.

Coach Mac says, “I am extremely excited to transition back to the girls’ program and continue to build on an already successful program. My goal is to instruct, lead and coach so that the God given talents He blesses us with can, and should, be used on and off the court.”

Parents and players will have the opportunity to meet Coach McCallister and hear his vision for the NHCA Girls’ Basketball Program at the team’s next Open Gym on Tuesday, May 7 from 6:00-8:00pm at NHCA. GO STATESMEN!

The NHCA Tennis squad took on Shekinah Christian on Monday evening. Unfortunately, there were no Statesmen wins but there was a tiebreaker and definite improvement by all!

Although we didn’t win, (Coach) Dave (Gray) and I both commented on the growth of each player that played in the match. Tennis is very much a mental sport as much as physical and I saw huge growth in all the players. We’re proud of each of them.”
